Business magnets (14–20pt) vs Car magnets (30 mil)
Updated 2026-06-01 · 4 min read
Business magnets and car magnets are the same product family (flexible printed magnet sheet) optimised for very different jobs. Business magnets stick to a fridge for years and trade grip strength for thin profile. Car magnets need to survive 70 mph wind and rain on a steel car door for months, so the magnet sheet is thicker, heavier, and the adhesive is stronger. Use the wrong one and the business magnet flies off the highway or the car magnet rips paint off the fridge.

Verdict
Pick a business magnet (20pt / 14pt) for any indoor flat-metal placement — fridges, file cabinets, whiteboard frames, microwave doors. Cheaper per unit, thinner, plays well with overlapping designs and stacking.
Pick a car magnet (30mil) only for vehicle exteriors and outdoor metal installations facing wind. The thicker substrate and stronger magnet are necessary to stay put on a moving surface — and won't damage the paint when removed cleanly.
