3mm aluminum signs vs 3mm Sintra (rigid PVC)

Updated 2026-06-01 · 5 min read

Aluminum and Sintra are the two "premium" rigid-sign substrates and they target different rooms. Aluminum is the outdoor permanent default — survives rain, sun, and wind for 5+ years holding bolt-mount hardware. Sintra (rigid PVC) is the indoor premium — smoother print surface, lighter to handle, easier to mount with adhesive or magnetic backing. Choosing the wrong one means a sign that warps or a sign that's needlessly expensive.

Verdict

Pick aluminum when the sign lives outside — exterior building signage, parking-lot wayfinding, construction-site addressing, real-estate yard signage that needs bolt mounting. Anything where weather, wind, or vandalism is a real risk.

Pick Sintra when the sign lives indoors and aesthetics matter — retail wayfinding, gallery placards, corporate office signage, hospitality lobby graphics. The print quality is visibly sharper and the lighter substrate is easier to install with hidden mounts.
